September 6, (THEWILL) – Portuguese footballing legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, has said he wants to achieve even more in his illustrious career, after notching his 850th goal whilst playing for Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr.
At a press conference whilst training with the Portuguese national team, the 38-year-old forward stated “I want more. As long as I play I want to set the bar very high, I have to think big.” He marked his 200th international appearance for Portugal by scoring the winning goal against Iceland, helping his country stay top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group. On Friday, Portugal will face Slovakia in Bratislava, followed by Luxembourg on Monday.
“I really want to win these two matches. If we win we will practically qualify,” said Ronaldo, eager to guide his team to the tournament. Asked about his long-running rivalry with Argentina’s Lionel Messi, Ronaldo responded that the two “respected each other” and had “changed the history of football”.
This year also marks the striker’s 20th anniversary playing for the Portuguese national team. “I’m proud of this longevity,” he remarked, adding “I want to continue, because I feel good and useful.” For now though, Ronaldo is focused on enjoying the moment and aiming for “an excellent Euros.”
Ronaldo first burst onto the scene as a gifted teenager at Sporting Lisbon, before achieving global stardom at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. Now in the twilight of his career, the forward shows no signs of slowing down, still driven to break records and claim trophies into his late 30s. With 850 goals and counting, the boy from Madeira remains one of football’s all-time greats.
